ParticleOS is a lightweight operating system for wireless sensor nodes, providing task scheduling and network communication for embedded sensing.
Our Goal
Create a modular OS for distributed sensing platforms (Smart-Its, Particle). Optimize for constrained computation and low energy use. Support modular applications for sensor networks.
Highlights
Real-time scheduling and event-driven architecture. Modular kernel for microcontroller-based devices. Key software layer for TECO’s WSN research.
Impact
Simplified application deployment in IoT systems. Influenced subsequent lightweight OSs (TinyOS, Contiki). Provided common runtime for Smart-Its hardware.
